"Keep Your Laws Off My Body"
"Keep Your Laws Off My Body"
This bumper sticker, seen in Seal Beach, California by "The Watchful Eye," is altogether, completely, thoroughly, from beginning to end, about abortion and nothing else. You know that and I know that.
But that’s not what it literally says. It calls for removing all laws that might affect or inhibit our total freedom in the use of our bodies. Now, if that happened, what would be the result?
· Unlimited abortion rights
· No laws against or regulating prostitution
· No laws against or regulating tobacco, alcoholic beverages or drugs
(whether prescriptive or addictive)
· No laws against consensual sex with a minor
· No laws against or regulating euthanasia, suicide or mercy killing
· No laws against dueling, hara-kiri, or other "defense of honor" acts
· No laws against self-mutilation
· No laws requiring acts of personal safety like seatbelt laws or helmet
laws
· No laws or regulations on dietary matters (like selling soft drinks at
public schools)
· No laws against polygamy or any other "marital configurations"
So there you are, if you want the government to "keep its laws off your body." By logical extension, the arguments for privacy and autonomy used for abortion rights lead to all of these and more.

No, it isn't. It's about kink, sexuality, non-monogamy, vaccines, healthcare, and all manner of other things that have been, are, or will be "controlled" by unfair laws. It's about things I should be able to do to myself or with consenting adults that do not harm anyone else.
If I have two husbands, I'm not harming anyone. If I exchange sex for money, I'm not harming anyone. If I decide to take my life after making arrangements with the loved ones I'll leave behind, I'm not harming anyone. I may be offending your moral sensibilities, but there is no harm.
There is a line between protecting people and taking away their freedom of choice.
